StoryFormer Launched! What's Next?

Hi all,

Now that StoryFormer v1.0 is out of the door I thought I would give a quick update on what we have been working on.

We appreciate that currently it’s not possible to share your StoryFormer Stories with others while you are developing it. And if you’re not on a route to publishing to BBC Taster, this will remain a limiting factor for getting your work seen.

So, we’ve been working on a standalone StoryPlayer application. You’ll be able to download this, along with your story and all assets. This will allow you to share the app and assets (e.g. through dropbox, wetransfer, other providers are available…) to other people so they can all experience your story without having to get it published online.

We are just going through the release process now, getting the app digitally signed and the legals sorted. And of course, getting an icon designed for it.

I will update this post when we have a release date. Hopefully, it will be within the next few weeks.

Hi MattB,

What are the current ways to share work created in storyformer please? I’m working with students on projects for storyformer, and am keen to share examples that i’m making with them, as well as ultimately sharing their finished stories with their peers.

Any steer on how to do this would be great. Thanks for making this awesome tool!

Hi Jonny,

We’ve finished the standalone StoryPlayer application and the ability to download stories, plus the interface in StoryFormer. However - we discovered that the way we provide the download could cause our servers to crash, so we’ve just got one more bit of work to do to re-work the download itself. This work is in our next sprint starting Sept 14th, and we will update the StoryFormer splash page to let you know when it’s in.

awesome great to hear, thanks for the speedy reply

Jonny, the StoryPlayer application is now live, you’ll find it in the tool.
Let us know how you get on with it!
