It’s been a while coming, but the StoryPlayer app for Windows and Mac is now available!
You’re free to download it and distribute it in order to share your stories. Of course, you’ll want to download your stories too, so you can distribute them alongside the player.
You can do all of this from the Export tab in StoryFormer. You’ll find all the options you need under ‘Download your story and media for use with the StoryPlayer application’.
First, download the StoryPlayer applications for Windows and Mac. If you’re planning to share your experience via dropbox, google drive etc, you’ll want both of these.
Then, download your Story and media as a Zip file. Install the StoryPlayer app, and launch it. You’ll see StoryPlayer tells you to add stories to a storyplayer folder in your documents folder. The installer should create this folder for you. You can put multiple stories in their own folders inside the storyplayer folder, and StoryPlayer will show them all as options to play.
Here’s what mine looks like. I’ve got four stories available - each story has its own folder inside the Documents/storyplayer folder. Although this is a Mac screenshot, the structure is exactly the same on windows. As you can see, inside each folder will be all the media used by the story, alongside a ‘story.json’ file, which is the story itself.
As long as your folder structure matches this, StoryPlayer should pick up all your stories.
If you can’t see the Export tab in StoryFormer, it will be because of your Enabled Features settings. Click on your name in the top right of StoryFormer, and “Change Enabled Features”. In the Features section, open up Advanced, and check “Import and Advanced Export”, and hit Save. You should now see the Export tab.
Let us know how you get on with exporting your stories and using them with the StoryPlayer app!
